The majority of the members of the Vavuniya Urban Council have grouped together against the present administration headed by the chairman S.N.G. Nathan, a TNA member.
Out of 11 members of the Vavuniya Urban council, eight members including three TNA members have decided to withdraw their support to the present administration.
These 8 members from different parties – DPLF (PLOTE), UPFA and TNA, gave a memorandum citing 29 grievances in the monthly UC meeting held on Wednesday. As this memorandum was ignored and received no response from the Chairman, these eight members have decided to withdraw their support to this administration in the future. Their allegations are against the Chairman, Vice Chairman and the Secretary to the Urban Council. “So far we supported the administration transcending political and party differences. Now we are disgusted with the administration. Though we tried many a time to have a discussion on these problems we were not given a chance. Thus we arrived at this drastic decision,” said the opposition leader G. Linganathan (PLOTE) to the Tamil Mirror online.
He said this decision was communicated to the secretary to the ministry of local government and the district secretary. When Tamil Mirror contacted the Chairman, S.N.G Nathan he declined to comment.
