The Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Health Unit said yesterday it had suspended the trade license of a garment factory for hygienic reasons.
It said the waste water from the factory managed by the daughter of a Deputy Inspector General of Police was illegally diverted to the canal close by.
A MC health unit official said on several earlier occasions severe warnings had been issued to this Ratmalana factory but due to the intervention of various officials and because of political pressure the license had not been revoked.
He said that on this occasion because of the dengue eradication programme licenses would not be issued to factories which did not maintain proper health standards.
